OK!
87 hours from now (less than 5 days), I'll be walking down the aisle.
Wow.
Good news: Seth has a job! He is now the youth minister at Annistown Road Baptist Church in Snellville, and we are so excited that God has given us this opportunity to serve Him together.
I had an interview - my first - just yesterday, so I'm just waiting to hear back about that. I think it went well, but I know that others were being interviewed. God has great things in store for us, and I just look forward to finding out what it entails.
Most of the wedding details are done... I just always come up with a lot of tiny details to remember, or things to pack, etc. that take up my mental capacity.
So, with just a few more days to go, please pray for us! Pray that we all remember all of the details. Pray that Seth's new niece will be born safe and healthy. Pray that I get a job soon! And just pray that Seth and I would continue to learn how to honor each other and glorify God together.

And the countdown REALLY begins
One month to go, people! One month! 31 days! Actually, less now that it's past 2 pm :)
It's funny the things you realize when you reflect on the past. I've been putting together pictures of me and Seth, and currently I'm watching them scroll by in a slideshow. Two things I've realized: 1) Seth and I like to experiment with our hairstyles, and 2) I have had a fabulous collection of sunglasses in the 3.5+ years we've been together.
But seriously, you should see our hair and my sunglasses. Actually, if you come to the wedding, you'll get a chance. (Yes, I'm putting a plug in here for your attendance at our wedding. No shame.)
Ok, now really seriously, I've realized that Seth and I have already had experiences that will last a lifetime. The good thing about that? We have a lifetime to have more experiences together! We have absolutely no clue right now where the next week is taking us, let alone the rest of our lives together, but we're pumped. Because wherever we end up, it will be a part of God's perfect plan for us. Honestly, that's what keeps us going amidst what would otherwise be disappointments - if that church/school job that we think is perfect isn't part of God's plan, then just imagine what IS!
Matthew 7:24-25 ~ 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
That Rock is the source of our strength, and not just because Seth's last name is Stone.
In the same chapter of Matthew, you will also find these words that Jesus spoke ~ 7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened."
I hope that as you read those verses, you let God's truth, love, and protection soak into your soul and spirit. Let Him meet you right where you are, whether it's a high point in your life or one of the lowest. Seth and I aren't perfect people, and we (especially me) let the anxieties of this life overwhelm us sometimes. But a few moments with the truth brings it all back into perspective.
We love and appreciate all of your support and prayers. Keep them coming!!!

P.S. - Seth was too kind with his last post here, so I want to inform you that Seth graduated last Saturday from Columbia International University with a DOUBLE major in Bible and Music, and he did it with highest honors. Summa Cum Laude, to be exact! I'm so proud.

Wedding & Graduation Stuffies
To start off I would like to say congratulation to my wonderful fiancee in her graduation this last Saturday. I am so proud of her to complete four strong years at USC with Magna Cum Laude. As I was sitting in the crowd I thought about a few things.
First of all, I cannot believe that Shelley and I (well almost: 3 more days) have completed four years of college. It has gone by so incredibly fast. It feels just like yesterday that I was moving into CIU and before that asking Shelley to date me after USC beat UGA on September 8, 2007.
Second of all, Right now as I type this Shelley and I are 40 days away from our wedding and 41 days away from our honeymoon trip. It really started hitting me the day of Shelley's graduation that we were six weeks out. Wow. I remember when I proposed we were over 14 months out. It even amazes me to think that we dated for four school years.
Last but not least, God is truly amazing. We are 40 days out and are in the midst of applying and interviewing for jobs yet God has given me a calm understanding that He will provide. We are both so excited to see HOW God works things to provide. God is absolutely worth full worship.

368 down, 83 to go!
Seth and I just hit the 1-year mark on our engagement!
I started reminiscing about the day Seth proposed. I remember an awful lot of tiny details... It was a Wednesday, which were the LONGEST days of the week. I ate lunch at 10 am... Which Wich with Greg. I was just looking forward to dinner with Seth the whole day. A few things happened that day that I didn't think of till later: one friend saw my class ring on my right hand and asked me about it... another friend danced with me in the hallway after seminar and told me it was our last dance. I had no clue.
Finally, after band was over, I scooted to the bathroom to change for our dinner date. Seth had bought me a dress that he wanted me to wear that night, so I had it on. I got in the car, and Seth had orange tulips for me. He ran into the School of Music quickly, so I waited in the car. We hit the road, on our way to Catch 22.
Seth asked me if I liked his sunglasses, which I had already told him I did but I told him again. I saw him check the directions, which made perfect sense to me. I mean, I had no clue where Catch 22 was located. He took an exit, made a few turns, and I began to recognize the roads... we were headed along the same route that takes us to the Milne's lake house. I asked him if he remembered, which he said he didn't. I couldn't believe it, so I started basically harassing him about his inability to remember directions. Ugh... I feel so bad about it now!
I couldn't believe it when we pulled onto the Milne's street. I asked Seth if we were eating with them. He said no, they were at choir practice; we were just there to watch the sunset. So when we got out of the car and walked to the dock, I sat down to watch the sunset! The FIRST time I caught the hint was when he asked me to stand with him.
And then he proposed :)
Yes, on one knee, with the ring out of his pocket and in his hand. With the question of "Will you marry me?".
:)
Then, instead of taking me to a restaurant, he had another surprise for me. The Milne's and Bronwyn, my roommate, were inside the house. Bronwyn had taken pictures of our engagement, and the Milne's hosted a dinner for us. It was absolutely perfect. Dr. Rick had even burned an Engagement Mix CD for us.
And after dinner, when we got back to my apartment, my friends had a surprise party for us. It was perfect. Really.
I have to admit, the rest of this year hasn't been so perfect. Wedding plans are stressful, and school is even more so. But in my life are three constants: God, my parents, and Seth. They are the only reason I've made it this far this year. And I just needed to thank them publicly for the strength they have given me when I had none of my own. For those of you who read this blog, thank you for your friendship. Because even if you have no knowledge of what's gone on in my life this year, your hugs and smiles and friendship have changed my days. I thank God for you, too.
So, with only 83 days left, I ask you for one favor: to pray for me and Seth - for patience with each other, for faith with jobs, for perseverance with school, for grace in our ministry, and for our love to continue to grow that we might better serve our Lord, His kingdom, and each other.
Oh, just in case you were wondering... to complete our engagement story, I took Seth out to Catch 22 on Thursday, March 24, 2011.

Edit: TOTALLY forgot to tell you what some of the little details meant (or the background story). The dress Seth bought me, he bought it with the help of my best friend, Katrina. I had mentioned previously how I wished she could be involved in our engagement somehow - and she was! When Seth asked me about his sunglasses, it was a ploy to take my eyes off the road so I would miss the HUGE billboard that says where Catch 22 is located - NOT the directions we were taking. Seth had owned the ring since the previous May... unbelievable for a boy who can't keep secrets. He LIED to me about CIU school meetings in order to meet my dad and ask his permission - in January. Seth had planned this date with me over a month before - it was 2 days after my junior recital, and we knew leading up to it we'd barely get to see each other... so it all made sense to me. I wasn't expecting it; I tell people God made me oblivious, because usually I pick up on things quickly. I'm so thankful He did that, too. Those are the details I remember, but Seth may add his side of the story later :)

Our Columbia church home
One of the most difficult realities (personally) facing me and Seth as we get ready to move on in our lives is the awareness that we will be leaving our church, First Baptist of Columbia. I honestly use the term "our" church because I feel so much at home when I'm there. To FBCola, I'm not just a college student who is probably attending for the free food... no, I'm a soul who has talents to give, needs to fill, and a spirit to water and revive. This semester, we are much more active than we have been, and it is so rewarding. Seth is interning with the Music Ministry, but he works with the sound guys, too - and he's head over heels about the passion that everyone in this church has for their positions. I've joined the choir, and I have never in my life met a group of people more genuinely interested in me and more supportive through prayer and encouragement. Our mentors are at this church, both individually and as a couple. We have made plans to model our future ministry after the church's model and priorities.
It's an incredible joy to join in worship each week with the members of this church, and it's an honor to learn from a man so wise and relatable as Pastor Estep. I'd really encourage you to watch the podcast of at least his sermon today - it's Valentine's related, and it's challenging. You'll find it here... and seriously, watch it.
I could pray all day long that Seth and I never face the challenge of falling out of love with each other, but even the movie Fireproof taught us this simple truth: A marriage which is "fireproof" is not free from the threat of fire but rather is prepared to defend itself from the fires.
I know that Seth and I have no real clue of what's ahead of us, but I do know that we are doing our best to make our relationship fireproof.
And if you're ever in Columbia on a Sunday morning, visit church with us. You'll see just why we love it.

P.S.
As my mother reminded me today (yes, that means she's excited... however, I only didn't remember because my brain was slightly fried from student teaching), we're exactly 5 months out. I'm not sure how we got so quickly from over 14 months to 5, but we did.
Also, I am ignoring the fact that we have to make decisions about music. But if you have any suggestions, please let us know. It's difficult to plan a music major wedding on a ... music major budget ... when we want our friends to be able to relax and enjoy our special day with us.
Finally, I have GOT to get addresses soon. Before I know it, it's going to be March, and my mom is going to want to be addressing things. Seth's list is basically done - he's the perfect child... funny how the roles have switched. Anyway... :) He's still wonderful and totally great with all of this planning stuff (see below).
Went for my final dress fitting last weekend - had my sister-in-law a liiiittttllleeeee nervous as she zipped me in, but I assured her it'd be fine. It was, but still.... Fingers crossed.
Tomorrow is 150 days... so I'll see you then!

Some quick things
I know that it has been a long time since I have posted. I am really trying to get use to this whole blogging thing. A few things have happened since the last time we have talked. I am starting my last semester of undergrad today. Shelley has started hers but today is her first day of student teaching. Praise God for the previous years of school.
I learned that I was going to have a niece (her name will be emrie grace). We got the tuxes solidified. We have a basic schedule of our wedding and are looking at the vows. We have even had 4 pre-marital counseling sessions.
It has been going real well and has been a blast. I never knew wedding planning could be so much fun from a guy's standpoint. Of course my favorites parts of planning was registering as Shelley allowed me to carry the scanning gun and shoot the bar codes (And this included 4 stores: Bed Bath & Beyond, Belk, Target, & Kohl's). We are excited.

Groom Involvement
According to The Knot, Seth and I have 200 days till our wedding. We started with over 400.. crazy.
Anyway, that's not what I'm here to say. This blog wasn't meant to be entirely about the wedding, so I'm here to change the current trend. I'm going to talk to you about Seth. It's fairly easy for me to do, but these specific details might explain a little about us.
If you haven't noticed, Seth is quite the involved groom. He's been that way long before we actually got engaged. Granted, it's unusual, but I love it. What I find interesting is how opposed some people are to groom involvement in wedding planning. Some people, mostly females, laugh it off and joke about how his opinion doesn't really matter. Honestly, I had people roll their eyes at me when I mentioned that I wouldn't make a final decision on tablecloths until I'd talked about it with Seth. For the life of me, I cannot figure out why I wouldn't.
I'm marrying him, right? Meaning: we are committing to spending the rest of our lives together with each other, through the good, the bad, the beautiful, the ugly, and the unexpected. Meaning: every decision I make affects now not only my life but his life as well. Meaning: communication, compromise, and understanding each others' wants, desires, needs, preferences, goals, fears, dislikes, and peeves are significant - nay, crucial - to a happy, healthy, supportive, effective life-long relationship.
Does it honestly make sense to begin a marriage by isolating one-half of a couple, responding to him with a disinterested chuckle and ignoring his opinions? Does it make sense to make decisions without the one with whom all future decisions will be made?
The one thing I understand less and less as the days count down is how there can be so much preparation for the wedding and so little preparation for the marriage.
I thank God as often as I can that Seth is the man He put in my life. I thank God that Seth spent hours online with me (and without me) looking through wedding invitations. I thank God that Seth wanted to go to the florist with me and had an opinion while he was there. I thank God that he asks questions so that our individual ideas of the wedding are as close as possible. Why? Because I know that every time we discuss the wedding, we learn another life lesson. We learn about each other; we learn how to communicate what we are trying to say in a way that the other understands. We learn how to work together to prioritize items within a budget. We learn what makes the other shine.
I'm sure that I haven't articulated my thoughts as completely as I wanted when I began, but I hope that when you finish reading this blog entry, you understand one of the many complexities that is Seth and Shelley. I'm not intending to say that Seth and I live a flawless existence together, but I do feel strongly about this situation. He is my future partner and the future head of my family. He's important to me, and I treasure his opinion, advice, and interest.
Now, I'm off my soapbox for today (which is lucky because the day's almost over).

Kind of Off Subject
Seth has started applying for jobs and sending his resume out to various states' Southern Baptist Conventions. He's applied for one here in Cola, and while we both understand that it's a stretch, every once in a while, we look at apartments in the area. We've found a few that we like, and there's one aspect that I will now not go without:

This is true, folks. They do. Continental breakfast.
Unfortunately, I haven't seen maid service advertised as an included perk. I'm holding out for that apartment complex. I know that when I find it, that's God's way of telling me it's where we're supposed to be.
Ok, I'm kidding. I mean, it would be awesome, but I'm totally prepared to share in the chores.
The problem with looking at apartments now is that I just want to know where to look! I want Seth to get a stellar job somewhere with really adorable, inexpensive apartments or homes so that I can productively waste time looking at them. And I want to be able to buy furniture... and cute decorations... and everything else I find on clearance that I can't buy because I have no home for it yet!
All in good time; I know. So, if you hear of any youth ministry jobs open, let us know :) And hey, if it's your church, it'll just mean we'll get to see you more... and if you love us enough to actually read this, we would love seeing you more.

Engagement photos
So, Katie McGee - of Katie McGee Photography - is quite a talented lady. Seth and I had our engagement photos done last night on the Horseshoe at USC and at the South Carolina State Fair! If you haven't seen them on our Facebooks yet, here's one of my favorite (ok, I love them all...)

Welcome home! Now - PLAN!
When I come home, my mom and I go on these wedding planning rampages (for lack of better word). They are intense and awesome. I just feel inspired about things now! We were at Ace Hardware last night (my dad is renovating his bathroom, bless him) and I found these really unique pew decorations. They are much less expensive than if we'd chosen flowers, and they are very much me and Seth (ok, mainly me, but he'll love them).
Then, today (while watching Auburn and Carolina football!), Mom and I rocked out the centerpieces for the reception. We've actually been planning on buying them for a few months, but today we found them for less than half of the original price. You can bet we bought them! They, also, are not flowers and are quite unique.
What else have we done? Oh yes, I might have found my shoes and other accessories. We have an idea for decorations at the front of the church. Our engagement pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, and I can't wait. Seth has been diligent about working on his part of the guest list, for which I am grateful and also ashamed, because I haven't been proactive on mine! We're waiting for our invitations to go on sale and for us to have a roundabout number for the guest list before we order, but they are designed and ready to go! I think they match the wedding theme perfectly (which, by the way, is a garden theme - in an indoor church way).
I think that's all we've done this week. I mean, I got a car Thursday so that took up a good chunk of time :)
I know we need to figure out a new poll, so let me know if you have any ideas!

Well....It's been a while
I am sorry that I have not posted in a while. I have been extremely overwhelmed with work and school and have spent my remaining time with Shelley or with Jon playing ping pong. I am excited on how the planning is going. We are probably doing our engagement pictures next week (and I am really excited about them..the location is going to be awesome) we will post some as soon as we can.
About the cakes, both will be really good some come ready to get some good food and cake.
I just want to see if anyone can guess the location of the pictures....so reply and try to guess where we will be taking them (if you know don't guess) and if you get it right i might buy you a candy bar

Ignorance is Bliss
I have to admit, I have thoroughly enjoyed forgetting that Seth and I are responsible for planning our wedding. That is, until I remember actually how much we have to do that still has to fit within the budget.
So... we'll probably make final decisions on invitations over fall break. We should also be getting our price list from the florist soon, so that will be nice to finally know if we've budgeted correctly for the flowers. Seth and I will work on our music preferences as soon as we're together for a few hours (and not doing homework or watching Netflix - see the priorities!). Food choices should be easy, but hopefully we'll get them done by Thanksgiving.
I think the biggest project for us to work on right now is our guest list. We worked on it a little the other weekend when we were driving back to Cola, and it was getting big :) Now, don't get me wrong - I think bigger is better for my wedding (and the only costs it affects are invitations, postage, and food), but we have got to not invite everyone that has ever been a part of our lives. Anyway, we've got to get people's names and addresses ASAP, and we've got to set up a nice Excel spreadsheet that will make my mother happy :)

1 Day Left!
One day, folks, till I'm back on wedding planning duty.
These past two weeks have been wonderfully peaceful. By the way, it's ok to ask how things are going :) I won't refuse to answer questions just because I'm not supposed to be planning! Talking isn't planning. I LIKE talking about how successful our wedding plans are so far. I mean, I'm excited about getting married, and the wedding is kind of a big deal.
ALSO, because so many of you have mentioned your utter sadness at the lack of polls, there will be a new one TOMORROW! Get excited.
I'm looking forward to getting back to planning :) and blogging.

Friday the 13th
Most people avoid big things on Friday the 13th.
I - well, I book a florist :)
I am SUPER stoked about it. Hopefully I will still be as excited when the pricing comes in, but I think it's all gorgeous. Seth wasn't with me today, but he was with me at the other florist when we discussed basically all the same flowers. I think I have a much clearer idea of how to accomplish the garden theme that I want. Hallelujah!
Also, I'm pretty sure we finalized photography yesterday. Whoa!

Wedding Marathon summer
I'd like to start with an apology of sorts - I think I complained previously that I wished Seth and I could catch a break. We really have caught breaks on things so far: decorations, accessories, the cake. So I'm sorry, and I thank God for the blessings He has given us.
When Seth came into town for my birthday, I feel like we planned wedding details 24/7 for 7 days straight. It didn't happen... I mean, I celebrated my birthday for two of those days :) And on the Sabbath, we rested. But Thursday and Monday we knocked the ball out of the park.
We actually started Wednesday when he met me and Mom at the doctor's office (for my shoulder - completely off topic for this post). After I was done there, Seth and I went to go see what kind of surprise I had put on layaway a few days prior. It was at the mall, and he guessed where we were going when I got inside, but I lied (convincingly) and told him no. Then we walked right in. I gave the lady my layaway receipt and asked Seth what he thought he was going to see - he guessed his wedding ring. Well, he was right... on half of it. It was a ring, but it was MY wedding band! It had been such a good deal that I put it on layaway immediately, and then when Seth saw it he loved it and bought it. YAY!
We finished up that evening by grabbing some cake samples from one bakery, having dinner with my parents, and checking out a possible rehearsal dinner location.
Thursday was Power Day #1. We went to the store where my bridesmaid dresses are so he could see them, then we went to three or four tux stores to see what they offered and get some price quotes. Then we went back to the mall to kill some time before our meeting with Pastor Bosson at church, and guess what we found there? HIS wedding band! It was hilarious. He had just finished telling me that since we'd found mine, he was excited about only having to look for his (and thus getting all the attention). We walked into Helzberg's, he tried on a few rings, and found the one he wanted. He even picked it over another one that he had been (in my words) obsessing over for a couple of months! And it was such a good deal that, if I'd had known to transfer money to my checking account, I could have bought it that day. But we ordered a special size that just came in, so I'll go finish up that account tomorrow :) Then we went to church to meet with the pastor. We got there a bit early on purpose. Mom and I had ordered sample tablecloths for the reception, but we needed to see what they looked like in the fellowship hall -- beautiful! Success! Our meeting with the pastor was a success too.
I can't remember many more specifics, but at some point that weekend, Seth and I did the following:
- met with another baker, a cake lady who lives on Wilmington Island who is DEFINITELY baking our wedding cake. I love her... and her prices.
- looked at florist books
- registered at Target
- met with a photographer
Since then, I've been ordering sample after sample after sample of invitations. I'm not in love with any that I can afford, so we're still looking.
Seth came back into town at the end of July to accompany me to a friend's wedding that was held at Southside. I really wanted him to be able to see a ceremony there so we would be able to really discuss ceremony details. It was beautiful and I think it will really help us in our own planning. That week we got another consultation with a florist completed and another meeting with the pastor.
We have three large details left to decide:
photography
flowers
invitations
We also have to decide on music, but that's more us having to ask to see if the musician(s) we want can do what we want them to do. We have a pretty good idea of what we want, and I think it may surprise you.
Anyway, I am getting fairly burnt out on wedding planning, so even though it's been awhile since we posted last, it may be a couple of weeks again. School starts up for Seth and me next week, and I'd really like for us to take some time off.
PS - If you know anyone who does beautiful invitations for beautifully inexpensive prices, I'd really appreciate it.

I wish!
Check out this story! I keep telling Seth that we need to catch a break, and he keeps reminding me that we will. I know we've caught a few, and I'm just not being thankful enough. So, if you ever hear me complaining, please remind me of all the good things about my life, Seth's life, our relationship, and our future.
Mom and I both have a lot of free time this summer, so we're tackling about one wedding topic a day. Thursday was tablecloths. I'm not joking when I say it took us 4 hours. TABLECLOTHS! We finally ordered a few that will hopefully be here in time to check at Southside for color compatibility, size, and whatnot.
Photography is the overarching subject of the week. I have narrowed it down to two photographers, and Seth and I have appointments for consultations with both of them next week. We also have plans to see my bridesmaids' dresses, check out some tuxes, visit a florist, taste some cakes, pose for some pictures, and - oh yeah - celebrate my birthday! Whew!
Also, if you were wondering what I've done about invitations, I have a good lead on a friend of my brother's who now designs invitations and such. I'm pretty excited about contacting her.
I've tried on some wedding dresses, too :) Not many, but a good enough start for me to realize that the dresses I thought I would love don't look anywhere near as beautiful as the dresses I barely considered. There are also the dresses that I just won't try! Yes, Dad cried when I walked out in the first one.
Hmm... what else have I done for this wedding? I don't know. Seth keeps busy, too, with plans, but he also has papers to write so I try to keep the distractions to a minimum.
Still haven't found a cake topper, other than the Waterford cake topper, that I want.
